Define Smooth er
The smooth endoplasmic reticulum, or smooth ER, is an organism that occurs in the cells of both animals and plants. A particular type of organelle is a sub-unit within a cell that has a particular function.
The important function of smooth ER is to make cellular products such as hormones and lipids. Smooth ER regulates and processes calcium ions and processes toxins. To distinguish it from the ER, it is termed as ‘smooth’, with a special type of ribosome for protein synthesis on its surface.

The number of smooth ER units in a cell depends on the cell type. These units occur in the cytoplasm, a gel-like substance inside a cell, associated with a unit of the stomatal endoplasmic reticulum. While smooth and rough ERs are interconnected, they can be distinguished by the presence and absence of ribosomes on the shape and surface.
